Working to make it faster and more useful
|
We've been working latelly in some features that probably users already noticed. We've changed the load balancing system so now results shown in the web interface are faster to appear. This change makes engines appear not in the usual alphabetic-ordered way, but they're sorted in the screen while they're generated. We've also included some basic info for PE (Portable Executable) files, that can be useful for technical users of the service. We've also added the engine from G-Data, and we're working in including more engines in the close term. Finally, we've included a new section for checking hashes (md5/sha1/sha256) so users can get reports from samples that we've already analysed.

Great service.
I am missing TrendMicro from the list of supported scanners. Why are they not included?
The "statistics" web page could be improved. The 99% undetected ring graph is almost the same always, so why not replace it with a trend graph? The Top 10 of Infected Files (Last 24 Hours) doesn't look right. It would be more useful to see trends in virus changes. It would also be very interesting to see graphs of how quickly the different virus engines are updated to catch new viruses. Give me an mail address and I can submit example excel graphs of useful statistics.
Trend Micro... that made me laught. Its one of the
crappiest AV's ever. Only usefull for enterprise since
that is their goal.
I was just thinking how incredibly useful it would be to be able to scan your computer using a windows client - it would stress the server, but it would certainly be a product I'd be willing to pay for.
After a while you'd have the hash of almost every normal use file, as well as every virus, so a computer scanning would need to upload almost nothing, just hashes and the odd virus that changes it's internals to avoid detection.
Or at least a windows shell extension with 'scan using virus total' that automatically checks the hash of the file, and then if that's not found, the file itself.
In the works perhaps? (Disclaimer: Yes, I'm aware of the privacy implications of having software automatically uploading files from your computer to a server, and the overall difficulties in having an entire computer scanned using an online service. I just think that those issues could be addressed with some thought!)
Ok i just found the context menu hack.. good work guys, now onto the antivirus!
Even a list of files who's hashes are unknown, and a list of files who's hashes were a known threat would be uber useful.
@Dylan:
This would joepardize interests of AV companies that VT is using. Such "online service" will never be available.
Great Service! I would pay for a "Pro" Section.
我的某文件有毒,
我把他送到VirusTotal掃描,
機密文件都被你散佈出去了!!!!
I'll never use your service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hope you get all the av out there join your cause
btw could you try and implement some antispyware tools ?
Hi, Avast engine didn't detect any of ten samples that I've recently uploaded, is it possible?
