Symantec engine is back

Now with version 10
[News]
After some weeks disabled in the service, we're glad to announce that Symantec is back to VT, this time with a version 10 engine. I want to thank Patrick Martin for the effort of providing us a version suitable for the service and all the info needed for a correct integration.

Re: Symantec engine is back

Is it the full engine (i.e. it detects PUPS)?

Re: Symantec engine is back

Agh. They suck. AntiVir, Bitdefender and others detecting Trojan downloaders, and Norton... "Nothing found"...
Yeah, right! Go, 'only-paying-subscriptions-ca-send-virus-to-Symantec', GO!!!GO!!! GO... to hell.

^^^^^^^
my above comment is true except for, i actually don't run windows, i use OS X and LINUX, im free from viruses, so thank you osx and linux. I have kaspersky on my parents computer at their house.

There are viruses for os x and linux but not like windows. kaspersky detects 262000 windows viruses , for the mac there is about 100 to 200. But lets jut say there is 5000 for OS X, thats still a significant amount LESS then windows. so windows users, have fun with your computer problems..

Re: Symantec engine is back

Wow, I welcome Symantec engine.
Even Symantec engine might not be good for all malware/adware. They are still best for viruses and have lowest false positive detection.

Remember everyone hates Symantec Coz, they were once first AV engine.

No! The majority of Norton haters have been biten by viruses and other malware when using one of their bloatware products. Their security suites take over your Windows install and are a nightmare to uninstall - many times remnants of Norton will remain leaving some functionality of Windows security not working.

Personally, a few years ago, I recommended and used Norton AV. However, this was changed when too many machines were found to be overloaded with nasties that Norton was unable to detect. Now I cringe when I see customers are using anything from Symantec.

Just about all the free malware solutions are more effective than the bloatware brigade from companies like Symantec and McAfee.

Re: Symantec engine is back

WoW i have been using NIS forever and never had any kind of a threat installed on my system NIS has been detecting all kinds of stuff and kept protecting me so just to make sure i was really protected by the NIS i had to install all Antivirus products out there and test them also i ran webscanners and all came up clean so...why the ppl dislike NIS? its because of the system resources its slowing down the system however NIS07 has gotten much faster! and Symantec really did a good job! by the way Symantec blows away Kaspersky at any time!

Re: Symantec engine is a back hole

Really, I was a Norton fan until that awful NIS 2005 that took me whole days of working time.
Some machines worked indeed, yet slowly, but some machine didn't get booted after install.
Some of my clients still use it, but I didn't see a single machine that worked fast enough....
A black hole for system resources and, what's worse, a lot of malware easily found by Antivir doin' a nice job while Norton says "nothing found"

Have fun with Windows...

Re: Symantec engine is back

never had any problems with sav corp edition. from 7.5 to 10.0.1.1000/engine 71.2.0.12 which is currently in use. realtime protection in 5 catagories doesn't slow down my system. schedual scans when not sitting in front of your computer. hard drive size, temporary, history, cookie files etc... will slow scans down. fragmented hard drive also. malware, spyware and adware are not the "primary" function of sav, although they're incorporating that into their suites. good luck looking for one security suite to be as effective as its "primary" function. one more thing. stop visiting sites widely known for their malicious works, don't open every e-mail you recieve, don't click on every banner or popup that comes your way and be carefull of what you download.
