more scanning power and new features
|
We’ve finally ended some heavy changes at VirusTotal that will help dealing with the increasing workload the service has experienced this last weeks. Although there will be no differences in the visual aspect of the service, users will notice that waiting times for having their samples processed has been reduced considerably compared to the ones experienced this last months.
Besides this internal changes, we’ve included new features and modified other ones. The mail interface returns extra information as the web one does, as some useful data about the file processed and notes given by some engines like packers detected or the result of the Norman Sandbox when it returns something. In this same field, we’ve included a new command to that interface: sending samples with ‘scan+xml’ as subject will return results in XML format. Although information received will not vary with the usual format, this more formal response will help automated processing of this emails. This kind of processing is usual for some habitual users of the service like some CERTs and other institutions.
After ending all his deep internal changes, we’ll start to work once again in the field of the engines, updating some of the already included and preparing the integration of new ones that has been in queue for some time to be part of the service.
We hope all this changes are welcome for users of the service.

GJ and keep up great work ..
would it maybe be possible to tell the secret what new engines are this :)
Is Symantec no longer with VirusTotal? I do not see Symantec engine anymore. :(
We've had some problems with the Symantec engine. Once we're able to solve them, it will be back (hopefully with a more recent version of the engine).
Thank you. Reply very much appreciated. Hopefully when symantec comes back to VT, it will be able to finally show us adware results unlike earlier versions.
Thanks J

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL ahahahahhahahahah thats funny.
Hey!
When you'll update an Kaspersky's engine? You are using still a 4.0.2.24, But now there is 6.0.0.303 version and 6.0.1.406 beta.
In 6.0 there is a Proactive Defence Module and it's powerfull innovation!
Please update!
When you'll update an Kaspersky's engine? WOW does he mean when will you update kasperskys engine or when will their be an update to kasperskys engine. Now we have two folks that need SCHOOL.
Anyways children, there is no need to update kaspersky because 4.0.2.24 is perfectly fine. This version detects everything from adware to spyware and of course trojans and viruses unlike sophos and symantec which DO NOT detect adware on VT. The proactive module in 6.0 is pointless to add to VT because proactive defense detects things like changes to the registry or the hosts file ect.. This would not help VT in ANY way
I agree with Go Back To School. If you want Proactive defense from Kaspersky so bad, download their software and use proactive defense.
thanks for your hard work!
Many thanks for your hard work.
I depend on this service daily.....Thank You for EXCELLENT work!
STATUS: STOPPEDService is stopped in this moments. Scanning of your sample has not been finalized and results has been lost
please fix this problem
Jcanto or whoever this may concern. You may want to update your main page to included the newly added sending samples with ‘scan+xml’ as subject will return results in XML format to the main page where it explains where to send an email and what to put in the subject line. I believe some users are not aware of this feature yet.
Other then that keep your great work up. I depend on this site everyday even though im on a macintosh and most viruses wil not infect me, i still like to be kind to windows users.
Thank you
B
You're absolutelly right. We'll proceed to update the page to show also that functionallity. Thanks for the heads up :)
Cool...it would also be nice to remove the horrible Panda from VirusTotal's engine:
it's really boring seeing it detecting all UPXed samples as "Suspicious"....
is it really so difficult for them to properly unpack a...open source-based tool?
;-)
To sowhat from sowhat
my reply
so what
If its really that boring seeing panda detect all packed files as Suspicious, Wouldn't it be boring to watch every scan you have submitted.
Remember legit applications atleast every single one I ran into are never packed and repacked and ect.. This is a common characteristic of malware, they just pack and repack the same viruses so signatures have to be made again by av vendors.
Suggestions, watch another vendors scan results instead of panda. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow you guys must really be having major troubles with symantecs engine, LOL me to, thats why I use Kaspersky. Great detection of virus and other crap.
Jcanto keep this great work up. Thank you for your service, have a good day.
Well, the use of packers is not necessarely linked to malware. There's legit aplications out there that uses packers for good reasons like simply reduction of size.
So how about the symantec engine ??
Also the current version of Avast Antivirus is not 4.7.936.0 it is 4.7.942.0.
Thanks for the great service
